Our Story
History
The Agency began in 2001 as part of Families For Children (FFC) adoption agency located in Salt Lake City, Utah. Laura Trinnaman, living in Taiwan at the time, struck an agreement with Suzanne Stott, Executive Director of Families For Children, to place children from Taiwan orphanages to qualified families in the United States. Despite its humble beginnings, this program flourished and became a highly respected Taiwan Adoption Program. Laura continued to work with FFC until 1/1/2007, when it was agreed that Ms. Stott desired to phase away from international adoptions and prepare herself for retirement. Laura and her husband, James, immediately took the steps necessary to establish a non-profit corporation and license the agency now known as For Every Child Adoption Services. The staff and professionals associated with Families For Children agreed to join For Every Child, thereby maintaining the experience, professionalism, and continuity of the well respected programs established while part of Families For Children.
Since its inception, For Every Child’s Taiwan Adoption Program (while also working under FFC) has united nearly 200 children with permanent adoptive families. In addition, many more children have found hope and comfort through our humanitarian aid efforts. For Every Child has now established a program to place children from Haiti with adoptive families, and desires to expand its adoption service offerings into Zambia.
Prior to her work with FFC, Laura Trinnaman was the founder of Families for African American Awareness, which quickly grew to become the largest support group for families with adopted African American Children.
For Every Child continues to serve children and families as we fulfill our mission statement that all children have the right to a loving family.
Purpose, Philosophy, and Mission
Purpose
Believing that children unable to grow up with their natural parents are best served by being placed in caring adoptive homes, For Every Child operates a child placing agency committed to that end. To facilitate the placement of such children, For Every Child offers the following:
Additionally, our Agency is to cooperate with other licensed local, national, and international entities to provide services to children and families and to enhance understanding and acceptance of adoption. For Every Child is organized as a non-profit 501(c)(3) corporation and is licensed in the State of Utah as a lawful Child Placing Agency.
Philosophy
For Every Child is an adoption Agency licensed to provide child placement services to families in Utah. The agency may place children from anywhere in the world and the United States, but is only licensed to conduct placement services in the State of Utah.
For Every Child services children and families without regard to race, color, creed, religion, sex, national origin, age, or physical disabilities. The Agency works with applicant parents in helping them to prepare to become successful adoptive parents – such as helping families access resources in the community, adoptive preparation classes, books, videos, workshops, seminars, support groups, therapists, cultural camps – all designed to help children and their new families have a good experience together, and to promote friendship and networking between children who are adopted, may have the same background, and to adoptive parents.
For Every Child believes in hiring qualified staff members to provide adoption services. Our employees are trained by the Agency to assess the adoptive applicant’s capacity to become adoptive parents according to State and international entity requirements. During the Home study process, our Director of Social Working works closely with family caseworkers to ensure the family has been properly prepared for adoption, and that they have all the resources necessary to educate them regarding their particular adoption. Our social working employees also review each Home study to ensure compliance with Utah State, Inter-state, Agency, and International guidelines.
For Every Child believes that except in extreme circumstances, EVERY CHILD IS ADOPTABLE. Our social working staff is trained experts in helping families who adopt “special needs” children, both domestic and international. One of For Every Child’s primary goals is to prepare families who wish to adopt these “special needs” children.
In addition to the direct services to families and children which are provided by the staff, the Agency strives to play an active role in local, national, and international adoption organizations. One member of the For Every Child Board of Directors is the Utah State representative for the North American Council of Adoptable Children (NACAC). She and many of the staff and Board members are active in several local and national adoption organizations and committees and parent support groups. We believe in supporting and being active in adoption organizations which promote adoption practices to protect the child, the biological parents, and the adoptive parents.
It continues to be the goal of For Every Child to work cooperatively in the placement of children for adoption who are unable to remain with their biological families. We are also committed to providing aid and support to those children in need for whom adoption is not possible. Additionally, we are committed to “giving back” through humanitarian aid efforts to the organizations and countries from which we place adoptive children, and are committed to providing the channel for adoptive parents to also give back to these organizations.
For Every Child has a Director of Social Work, and a staff of 3 caseworkers, that work cooperatively with Social Work agencies to conduct Pre-Placement Home Studies, Post-Placement Reports, and Court Evaluations for the agency.
Our current staff has decades of experience and our Social Working staff has over 50 years combined experience in assessing prospective adoptive families. We try to make the process of adoption both friendly and educational, providing encouragement and resources, rather than “weeding-out” prospective families.
Mission Statement
For Every Child believes that every child deserves a loving family. To that end, we are committed to place waiting children from other countries and the United States with qualified adoptive families.
Our aim is to help families have a successful adoption experience by providing prompt, friendly, and effective service that is governed by integrity and honesty. Since families are interested in adopting different types of children and each family may be at a different stage of the adoption process, we are sensitive to the individual needs of families and we direct them to the resources that will prepare them to parent the child for whom they have applied. We are a non-discriminatory agency, meaning we provide services to families regardless of race, religion, creed, nationality, physical or emotional state, or sexual orientation, within the bounds and limitations of the international orphanages and the policies of the entities with whom we work.
We believe that both pre- and post-placement services are vital and we strive to provide every opportunity that adoptive families need to prepare and fulfill their adoption efforts, and are available to our families should they need additional education and support.
We are committed to work with local, national, and international agencies to serve children and families in the promotion, understanding, and acceptance of adoption. We are also committed in our efforts to comply with all local, national, and international rules, regulations, and treaties regarding adoption.
