Second Step:
Facilitation Resources
Listed below you will find all materials needed to facilitate Second Step in your classroom. Please refer to your Teacher Letter for instructions on the use of each document. Please refer to the schedule for important dates, including timing of parent letter distribution and data reporting. Thanks for your partnership in keeping kids safe!
Tests
Pre-Test
Pretest should be done individually or in groups of no more than three children
Questions should be asked as written; no additional prodding or clarification. Note: if a child misunderstands, you may clarify a word. For example, if you ask "What would you do if you were lost in a store?" and they think you asked "What would they do if they were lost in a storm?"; that should be clarified.
Write down exactly what the child says.
Record non-responses (including head shakes, shoulder shrugs, etc.) in the boxes provided on the left.
You can use the same test page for several children, simply record all answers.
Names of children do not need to be on the test forms. Results are calculated as a whole for each classroom and site.
Post-Test
Should be completed in the exact same fashion that the pre-test was administered.
A note on Tests: Upon completion of the curriculum, all tests will be “graded.” Your site director will receive the results from your classroom and the results of all of your sites combined. The test results will come on an individual form and information about how data was gathered and scored will be included
